Altered Skin presents Fatherhood at The Welfare Ystradgynlais, Swansea

Altered Skin presents Fatherhood

A highly physical and laugh out loud take on fatherhood across generations, cultures and languages.

Being a father in the 21st century is complicated, especially when you’re the father of a son of mixed heritage. Shane Shambhu shares his own experiences of fatherhood, as both a dad and a son in a Keralan, Turkish and Austrian family, interwoven with stories of other lives making their way in a changing world.

“Absolutely amazing… I’ve never seen anything like it”. Audience member

Presented as part of a partnership between Creu Cymru and the Rural Dance Touring Initiative, this performance will be followed by a free Q&A and quiz with delicious food.

Fatherhood features a deaf character who uses his own home language, a version of sign language that individual families and communities develop, often where deaf and hearing people need to communicate. The show also features small amounts of several different spoken languages, Turkish, Malayalam, Tamil and German.

Every performance of Fatherhood includes integrated captions that translate the spoken and signed languages and provide descriptions of the sounds and music.

BSL interpreter Adrian Blake will be on hand to welcome BSL users to The Welfare before the show and will also interpret the post-show activities.
