Following their gig here at The Welfare in spring 2024, An Dannsa Dub return in 2025, bringing future dub from Ancient Scotland.
Born from a love of traditional Scottish folk, dub reggae and dance music, together An Dannsa Dub summon the joyous, communal energy of a cèilidh and a sound system session. Their name comes from the Gaelic for “The Dub Dance”.
Their sound celebrates the ancient Gaelic and West African rhythms that influenced reggae, which in turn, via sound system culture and dub’s pioneering remixes, produced modern dance music. Their live shows and recordings are a seamless, pulsating fusion of all this and more. An Dannsa Dub have carried this unique, unstoppable sound to the UK festival circuit.
They’ve thrilled a 10,000 strong crowd at Boomtown Fair and have headlined a sold out show at Celtic Connections, the UK’s premier Celtic music festival. 2021’s self-titled EP “An Dannsa Dub” brought the group worldwide acclaim. The release has been played on BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio Nan Gàidheal and BBC Scotland. It’s been supported by Don Letts, who included it in his “Best Of 22”, as well as Tom Robinson, Mungo’s Hi Fi, and OBF. We are also excited to announce that local band Gower Soundclash will be back to support An Dannsa Dub on the night.
Gower Soundclash bring the heaviest beats and lowest bottom end from the peninsula with their unique dub flavours, heavy hitting lyricism and party vibes. Their digital dubs live set-up spans the full spectrum from sparse dub rhythms to four to the floor steppa style skank outs. Comprised of Chris Dow on bass and buttons, Adam Land on vocals and melodica and Will Roper on trumpet, dub siren and echoey madness.
Gower Soundclash have been making a name for themselves, packing out venues and bringing the dance. Headlining Copr stage Swansea Fringe Festival, providing support for incoming names and to running our own nights and festival stage part, bringing the bass with their own hand-built soundsystem. They have also provided support for acts such as Dub FX, Lowkey, Beetles Dub Club, N’famady Kouyate, as well as many others.
