The true story of young North Walian poet Ellis Humphrey Evans, who competes under his bardic name, Hedd Wyn, for the prestigious Chair, the highest honour at the National Eisteddfod. However, before the winner is revealed, he is sent to fight with the English in the trenches of World War I.

Filmed in Gwynedd in 1992, Hedd Wyn was the first film from Wales to be nominated as Best Foreign Language film at the American Academy Awards.
