Josef Herman Art Foundation

The Josef Herman Art Foundation Cymru, based at The Welfare is dedicated to promoting an appreciation of the life and work of artist Josef Herman.

Josef Herman (1911 – 2000) was a Polish born artist who is remembered for his depiction of the Welsh mining community in Ystradgynlais. He visited Ystradgynlais in 1944 for a holiday and stayed 11 years.

In his name the Foundation fosters wider participation of the arts. This is done through an annual award for schools, exhibitions, events, lectures and support for an annual prize at the National Eisteddfod of Wales.
