The Big Weekend Ystradgynlais

Over the weekend of 14th – 16th June, Ystradgynlais will host three very different events across town as part of ‘The Big Weekend’ festivities. Make sure you save the dates!

Friday 14th June: Friday Night Fizz
St Cynog’s Church Hall

Doors Open: 7pm | Entertainment: 7.30pm – 10.45pm
Tickets £10 – Available from the Old Temp Fish Bar, Cofion Cynnes and Kindle House

An evening with the fabulous band Soul Lotta Funk and a disco, organised by Discover Ystradgynlais. Bar and food available.

Saturday 15th June: Family Fest
Various Venues Around Ystradgynlais Town
10am – 4pm

Family Fest‘ will focus on free family fun.

Drop by The Welfare’s Summer Fayre and browse through a variety of craft & food stalls, visit the ever popular funfair, and participate in some children’s craft workshops (no need to book!). The bar will be open throughout the day, with outside seating if the weather is nice.

Visit the Gorsedd Park‘s Junior Busking Stage, hosted by Discover Ystradgynlais, with performances from a variety of community groups & organisations, including Ystradgynlais Public Band, The Performance Factory Stage SchoolSwansea Falcons Cheerleaders, and our local schools. The day will end with a grand performance from Valley Rock Voices to close the event at 4pm. There will also be food on sale, with sweet and cake stalls.

The Gorsedd Park and The Welfare will both open at 10am, with events and performances running through the day.

The Abercrave Fire Service will be entertaining families & children outside the Ynyscedwyn Arms all day, with a duck race at 4pm.

Street Art Festival performances will take place around the various sites throughout the day, from professional performers including the amazing Twrch Trwyth, as well as Boudicca by WheelAbouts.

The Arts Council of Wales have supported The Welfare to bring these world-class street artists to Ystradgynlais.

Whimsy by Krystal S. Lowe is the story of a girl who greatly values nature and how she comes to value herself. Throughout the two-woman dance theatre work, audiences get to enjoy watching Whimsy imagine flying high with birds, running with squirrels, and eating sandwiches with ducks. Whimsy is a storybook coming to life ideal for young people and their families.

The ‘Carnival themed’ festival parade is scheduled to start at 1pm (may be subject to change). If you or your group would like to take part, please call in and speak to Ams at The Old Temp Fish Bar.

Not got the kids? No problem!

Caplin Butchers Ystradgynlais, in collaboration with the Loaf Kitchen Bar, will be hosting a day of musical entertainment with Buskers and street entertainers at 10 busking zones around town.

From 9am, there will be an AMPLIFIED ZONE in the beer garden of the stunning Ynyscedwyn Arms & inside Merlins for all of the Buskers, musicians & entertainers to perform to you all throughout the day.

There will also be a Busking Zone at the Pen Y Bont Sports Bar & Lounge, and Gough Constitutional Club will be hosting a day of amazing Choirs.

Look out for other events taking place at other venues around town throughout the day!

The Proms return to Ystradgynlais! Featuring music for all tastes – classical favourites, unforgettable melodies from shows and films and popular hits – performed by world-class musicians including Lucy J. Morgan Ensemble, Shan Cothi and Trystan Llyr Griffiths. Directed by Alwyn Humphreys.
