Film Club: All About Eve (PG)
A seemingly timid but secretly ruthless ingénue insinuates herself into the lives of an aging Broadway star and her circle of theater friends.
All About Eve Mankiewicz’s witty portrait of a Broadway diva (Davis) fending off age, rivals, and anxieties about the loyalty of a fan-turned-assistant (Anne Baxter) is packed with bitchy banter. A superb cast does Mankiewicz’s pithy dialogue proud, none more so than Oscar-winning Sanders as a supremely supercilious drama critic. Smart, sophisticated, and devastatingly funny, All About Eve is a Hollywood classic that only improves with age.
Director: Joseph L. Mankiewicz USA 1950
