LGSM (Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners) Pride Event

Join us for a special event marking 40 years since the LGSM (Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners) supported our local Miners Support group during the 1984-85 Miners Strike, as depicted in the inspiring 2014 film "Pride".

Experience the remarkable story on screen with a special screening of the film, followed by an engaging Q&A session featuring former MP for Swansea East, Sian James, and Jonathan Blake from the LGSM. The film will be introduced by Sian, whose character in the film finds strength through her involvement with Women against Pit Closures during the Miners’ Strike. We’ll also have a selection of original banners on display, alongside recent community project banners.

About the Film:
The smash culture-clash comedy (filmed locally in Banwen and the Dulais Valley) tells the incredible true story of the creation of campaign group Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners, and their encounters with the inhabitants of a Welsh mining village as they join forces during the miners' strike of 1984.

Brought to life by a remarkable cast including Ben Schnetzer, Dominic West, Imelda Staunton, Billy Nighy, Freddie Fox and many more. With a wonderfully evocative soundtrack and great attention to authentic period detail, this is a feel-good history lesson like no other.

Film Running Time: 119 minutes, followed by Q&A with Sian James and Jonathan Blake
